There are more than 635,000 military veterans in Michigan who have bravely sacrificed their time and health to keep our country and families safe. Yet they often struggle to adjust to civilian life and access the assistance and services they deserve. MSU Extension is dedicated to supporting veterans by sharing information about the many resources available to them, as well as helping them access Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. By distributing outreach materials and holding one-on-one meetings in places like Veterans’ Affairs clinics and American Legion halls, MSU Extension is helping veterans and their families determine their SNAP eligibility, evaluate their options and learn about additional support services.
- As of August 2019, over 30,000 veterans’ outreach materials have been distributed in the Upper Peninsula, Grand Rapids, Flint and Detroit areas.
- MSU Extension has reached a total of 614 veteran service providers.
