Current Issues Affecting Michigan Local Governments: Michigan Energy Policy Reforms webinar

Next webinar in the Current Issues series will look at how new energy policy may impact local governments.

An examination of how energy policy reforms adopted by the Michigan legislature in December 2016 may affect local governments is the focus of a webinar March 14, 2017, starting at 10 a.m.

This free webinar is part of a series which started in January by Michigan State University Extension. The webinars are in partnership with the Michigan Association of Counties and the Michigan Townships Association. The series of webinars are to discuss timely issues related to local governments in Michigan. In the fast paced and ever changing world of government, it can be a challenge for leaders to keep up with things that are happening at other levels of government, or how others are dealing with similar issues they are facing.

These webinars, six times a year, provide an opportunity for local elected and appointed officials, as well as staff and interested residents, to hear from experts on a variety of timely topics throughout the year, as well as learn about how other local units are addressing similar issues.

The March webinar will examine how energy policy reforms may affect local governments. The webinar will feature a presentation by former Michigan Public Service Commission member Steven Transeth.

This webinar will take place March 14 from 10 - 11 a.m. Registration information is available online. Those interested who are unable to participate can register and be sent a recording of the presentation. Participants without internet access will also be able to phone in to listen to the presentations.

Future webinars will cover topics relevant at the time, as well as topics such as addressing local service needs, road and transportation funding and local government finance. Presentations will be facilitated by MSU Extension staff and include presentations from experts on each topic.

A link to the webinar will be sent out closer to the date of the webinar. Those with questions should contact MSU Extension specialist Eric Walcott.
