Blueberry IPM training for Hispanic growers set for June 7

Learn how to manage early and mid-season blueberry pest problems at upcoming IPM training conducted in both Spanish and English.

The Michigan State University Extension small fruit team and Michigan Food and Farming Systems invite Hispanic growers, field managers and farmworkers to attend an integrated pest management (IPM) scout training to receive updates on IPM tools and practices for managing early and mid-season blueberry pest problems, including cherry and cranberry fruitworms, stem gall wasp and blueberry fruit rots.

The 2019 IPM Training for Hispanic Growers: Managing Early and Mid-Season Blueberry Pest Problems workshop will be Friday, June 7, 2019, from 4-9 p.m. at the Main Conference Room of Lakeside Entertainment, 09921 Blue Star Memorial Highway, South Haven, MI 49090.

Training will be conducted in both Spanish and English. Simultaneous translation, English/Spanish, will be available for those that may require it. There will be two RUP credits for those attending the program.

The meeting agenda is:

  • 4-4:30 p.m. – Registration and dinner
  • 4:30-5:10 p.m. – Managing and programing the chemical control of cherry and cranberry fruitworm using Enviroweather.
  • 5:10-6 p.m. – Blueberry fruit rot management update and fungicide management
  • 6-6:30 p.m. – Managing stem gall wasp: update and recommendations
  • 6:30-7p.m. – Pesticide management
  • 7-7:10 p.m. – Coffee break
  • 7:10-8 p.m. – Calculating and calibration your applications
  • 8:00-8:30 RUP and survey

Even though you may have already attended one or more IPM trainings in the past, this training will provide you with new information and help you upgrade your IPM program to manage major insect and disease problems under the current weather conditions.
